Thursday....

I have not had the best week so far. I was thinking yesterday that it could only get worse if we get a foot of snow yet. The weather forcast this morning says freezing rain over night! UGH!! I stocked up on wood this morning in preparation. DH will get another wheel barrell full tonight. We keep it in the garage where it will be close and dry! I will fill buckets of water tonight in case we lose power so that I can still flush a toilet. I am thinking of looking for a property in the Florida Keys... until hurricane season that is!
Two coupon inserts this Sunday. I also got my All You [1-year subscription] magazine this week. They always have great coupons throughout the magazine. This is one magazine that is well worth the cost! Severeal B1G1F coupons in it this month.
I have a quiet morning here at home today. I will do some Dr office work and tackle my taxes I think.

Windy Wednesday.....

Well, yesterday I was stuck on an icy road, this morning I had no power for over an hour! That is ok, I got to chase the can of recycles down the road so I had plenty to do while we had no running water or heat. The joys of living in the country!!

Tuesday....

I spent almost 2 hours sitting along an icy mountain road this morning stranded with about 15 other cars. The mountain was covered with black ice that no one saw until it was too late. We all slid down the mountain at the same spot. We all sat there waiting for the salt/cinder truck to come rescue us. There is very poor cell phone connection on the mountain too, so calls for help were hard to make. I am finally home safe and this is where I am staying today!!! On a good note, I met 2 very nice women that live in my neighborhood that I never knew before. I am also very thankful for the hat my 6 year old son left in the car. It kept my head very warm while standing up the hill from my car so that I would not get hit if someone slid into my car. I bet I looked very cute!! I was pretty sure I would not starve either since there is probably a full meal stashed under his booster seat in the back seat.

Still nothing at CVS this week for me. Next week is the last chance to use my ECB. I was really hoping I would be able to use then to get more great deals but I am not going to buy stuff just for the sake of buying things. I only want to buy things that we will actually use. They are not great deals if we will not use the stuff. Here's hoping for a better weel next week!

I want one of these!!

Massage Chairs - I got my DH a massage for his birthday and he loved it. It was his first professional massage ever. I had one years ago and really enjoyed it but, I hate to spend the money on things like that for myself. Instead, I sit in the massage chair, at the nail salon, as I get a pedicure. I always hate when they are finished, because I never want to leave that chair. Then I found this chair... Massage Chairs. I think I need one of these here at my house!! Eventually we would like to change our play room into a home library. We've always talked about a nice leather, straight back chair for that room where you can get comfy and read. I have changed my mind! I want this chair....Massage Chairs so I can get a nice massage while I read a good book! If I start working on my DH now, I think i could convince him to get this for me, I mean himself, in the future. Until then, I will just go to the nail salon and dream that I am in my own home while relaxing in their massage chair!

Wednesday......

This is my project for today. After I am finished working, i will clean up this old picture frame, paint the mat and insert the counted cross stitch picture (below). I am thinking about a "new to me" car in the next 2 years. It is a long process for me. The first step I always take when looking to purchase a "new to me" car is checking out what the monthly payment would be. By doing this, I can figure out how much I can really spend on a car since I know about what I can afford to pay each month. This site has a neat feature that does this for you! Check it out!!

Work From Home.....

I have been a stay at home mom for almost 8 years. At first, I did lots of refunds, shopped with coupons to save on my grocery budget, sold extra coupons and filled out surveys for a few extra dollars. 2 1/2 years ago, I found a work from home job working for a Dr office. It gave me the extra money I was looking for without having to put my kids in daycare. This was the answer to my dreams.. still be home with my kids but have a small income. BUT... if I found this job... could I find more ways to make a few extra dollars? I love having extra money so that we can take a vacation from time to time and I can shop for nice things from time to time.
I started blogging over a year ago just because I wanted to share the great deals I found with some of my friends. As time went by, I actually was able to create a pretty good blog following. The wheels got rolling... maybe I could make money from my blog too!! I search for ways to do this. One way I found was here.... get paid to blog. I signed up a long time ago but never really did anything with it. A few weeks ago, my friend Stacy sent the link to me again. It got me thinking that maybe I should check out Pay per Post to see if I could really make money. I have read other blogs that used get paid to blog and it looked simple. So.. here I am giving it a shot. If you are a blogger, why not try it out. Who can't use a few extra bucks each month? Click here get paid to blog and at least look at the opportunities they have for you.
This sure does beat picking up aluminum cans or delivering phone books for a few extra bucks!!! Trust me, I know! I have done them both!!

Frugal Breakfast......

During my best coupon days I bought frozen pancakes for my DD for pennies or got the free after double or triple coupons. I would stock up when I found a great sale. This spoiled her. Then I fell off the coupon wagon sometime last year but continued to buy these for her at full price (Gasp!)! Now that I am back on the coupon wagon and trying to be more frugal with my groceries I do not want to buy items like that with out a coupon. My solution.... I found a box of pancake mix in my pantry last week when I cleaned it out (imagine that! LOL!) that was marked 75 cents from a discount grocer. SO... Sunday evening, I made a large batch of mini pancakes. I placed them on cookie sheets and froze them. Once frozen, I placed them all in a freezer bag. Now DD can grab a few each morning and stick them in the microwave... just like the store bought ones. I still have enough mix to make another batch. She should be able to eat breakfast for 2 weeks at the cost of 75 cents! Now if I could could find a mix for whole wheat pancakes at that price. OR.. anyone have a frugal whole wheat pancake mix recipe?

Tuesday......

I am late with my post today.. busy morning working for the Dr office. The soup was a big hit with Dh yesterday. I thought I added to many spices but I did have a big bowl for dinner last night. I would make it again but change a few things that I did.

My coupon file.....

Expandable Organizer - Clear - This is very similar to the file I use to carry my coupons around. One each tab, I wrote a store name and i file the coupons in it according to which store I want to use them at. This is easy to keep in my car or just grab when I am running out the door. I try to keep it stocked with what I will need so I can make quick trips while I am already on the road and save some gas. I love this system!!
I have a 2 more holders that stays at home where I can organize into categories. One is as big as a shoe box. At one time I was the coupon exchange coordinator for a small refund newsletter so I had tons of coupons on hand. I no longer use this one but I save it in case I ever get that involved again. The other one was where I organized my personal coupons into categories so I could find what I needed easily. This one has been pretty sad the last year... almost empty!
When my DD was born, I got very involved in coupons and refunds as a way to keep myself busy while on maternity leave. One day during this time, I was shopping at Rite aid with my big personal coupon organizer that, in addition to cents off coupons, also held over $100 worth of free items coupons. Later that night I realized I lost my coupon organizer and Rite aid was already closed. That coupon file was worth a lot of money and could really hurt my already tight budget at the time. I was sick to my stomach and barely slept that night. The next morning, I was up early and at the store when it opened. Imagine how surprised I was to find my coupon file setting on a shelf where I had left it while looking at something. I grabbed it and ran home. I was so happy to see it again and even happier to see no one had even touched it. That was a close call!! From them on I made sure there was a piece of paper in it with my name address and phone number in case it was lost and then found by a kind person!

While I was looking for my coupon file on Amazon I found this one on wheels. I was thinking how funny it would be to wheel this into a CVS on a Sunday morning ready to earn some ECB!! The coupon cop manager at my CVS would probably have a heart attack at the site!! LOL

My Pantry..................

I missed a few items off to the left in this picture but I think you can see what my pantry basically looks like. It is a corner in my basement laundry room. It is lacking some things at this point but in the last few months I have really neglected coupons and my pantry. I am working now on getting it fully stocked again. I really need some pancake mix, spaghetti sauce, mac and cheese and a few more cleaning supplies.
Some people like to have a list of what they want in their pantry and keep it stocked that way. I am not like that. I stock it with what ever deals I find. If I know my family will eat it, I buy as many as I can at the deal price and stick it in the pantry. This is just what works for us.
I have a section on the top shelf (that I missed in the picture) with snacks. At Easter and Halloween, my MIL buys huge bags of snacks for my kids instead of candy. This sometimes carries me through the year. I also have a huge tin can with an extra sugar and Kool Aid mixes. Sometimes I keep a pitcher of Kool Aid in the fridge for the kids instead of buying juice boxes. I use less sugar than it calls for and it becomes a very cheap drink since I got all the Kool Aid on sale or clearance.
You can see all the cans of canned spaghetti. Every time I ask my husband to stop at the store for me, he comes home with some canned spaghetti. UGH! DS and I hate the stuff. I have at least a year supply at the rate it gets eaten around here but I am sure he will buy more the next time he stops! LOL
I also wanted to note that this is just the extra stuff I have. I have kitchen cabinets filled with food and an extra freezer full of food. We are big gardeners and although we prefer to eat the veggies fresh from the garden, I do freeze some things.
Here are a few things I wish I had......................
Safer: Pantry Pest Trap (2 per box) - I never had this problem but it is always in the back of my mind.
Emergency Food Storage & Survival Handbook: Everything You Need to Know to Keep Your Family Safe in a Crisis - not a bad book to read.
4 Person Deluxe Survival Kit - I do have a backpack in the pantry with a few survival things that I made up after September 11th when it was the thing to do. I no longer have food in it though. This would be a nice already made kit to have that I hope I would never have to use!
Do you think I need anymore wine? LOL

My CVS and Giant Deals.....

I headed out to the gym this morning after the kids got on the bus. I am really trying to combine trips with gas prices so high. My first stop was at my FIL's house to pick up his Sunday coupons that he saves for me. He had the above sample waiting for me also. :O)
CVS is right down the street from my gym so I headed there with lots of coupons to get the above deals. Here is the breakdown....
2 Palmolive dish soaps - $1.49 each minus $1.00 Sunday coupon and earned $2.00 ECB
1 Fructis shampoo - $2.99, earned $2.00 ECB (I could not find a coupon for this but I thought it was a pretty good deal so I got it)
1 Colgate toothpaste - $2.99 minus $1.00 coupon earn $2.00 ECB
1 box of Tampons - $7.99 minus $2.50 printable couon I got here Playtex Sport, and a $1.00 CVS Playtex coupon I found here *NEW CVS Printable Coupon thread* 10/16/2007 *DISCUSS COUPONS AND RELATED ISSUES ONLY* - SlickDeals.net Forums
2 Soy Joy - $1.00 each minus a B1G1F coupon (i was trying to get 3 since I had another free coupon but the manager was the cashier today and he is a coupon cop and said I could not do it. I decided not to argue since I did not want him to argue about all my internet coupons)
Total = $18.95
Minus Manufacturer's coupon -$5.50
minus $2.00 off $10.00 CVS coupon -$2.00
minus $1.00 Playtex/CVS coupon - $1.00
New Total = $10.45
Minus $10.00 ECB from previous trip = .45 cents out of pocket
Earned $8.00 ECB on this trip

I went to a 2nd CVS then since the first one was out of a few things and it was right down the street. This store was very unorganized and had no sale signs hung so it was a little more challenging but I did ok. Here is the breakdown....
2 Aquapods - 2 for $5.00 minus this $1.00 coupon Coupons - Fun & Coupons- Aquapod Moms earned $2.00 ECB
1 Soy Joy - $1.00 minus $1.29 free coupon (it is how it scanned - who am I to argue?) earned $4.00 ECB since it was the 4th bar I purchased
1 Excederin - $1.99 minus $2.00 Sunday coupon earned $1.00 ECB
2 CVS toothbrushes - $2.99 each earned $5.98 ECB
Total = $13.97
Minus manufacturer's coupons - $4.29
New Total = $9.68
Paid with $8.00 ECB from 1st store
Total out of pocket = $1.68
Earned $12.98 in ECB
I could have done better if I had thought to bring another $2.00 off $10 CVS printable coupon. Oh well... I will not forget next time!!
I went to Giant after CVS #1 to use some coupons on sale items since they double and I could get a few things free or for a few pennies each. It is in the same complex at CVS so it was not out of my way at all. Here is the breakdown....
2 Swiss Miss hot chocolate - $1.00 each minus 2 - 50 cent coupons doubled
3 Hamburger Helper - $1.00 each minus a 50 cent coupon doubled and a $1.00 off 2
2 Better Crocker Delights - $1.97 each minus 2 - 50 cent coupons doubled (not the cheapest but they are yummy and the kids will love them as dessert tonight!)
2 Betty Crocker Scalloped potato mixes - $1.00 each minus $1.00 off 2 coupon
1 Delmonte Fruit Salad - $1.35 minus 40 cent coupon doubled
1 Colgate Toothpaste - $2.00 minus $1.50 on line printable coupon
1 Campbell's boxed soup - $2.39 minus $1.00 Sunday coupon (not the cheapest but DH loves this and I have to give into his wants from time to time!)
1 Barilla Pasta - .99 cents minus free coupon
1 Barilla Pasta Sauce - $2.74 minus free coupon
Total = $19.76
Minus $12.38 in manufacturer's coupons
Paid out of pocket = $7.38

Today's total was $52.68 worth of items (after sale prices) for $9.51 out of pocket. Not a bad morning if I do say so myself!! This will really help my pantry fill up! If I would take the time to clean it, I would take a picture for you.. maybe next week!

The Results.....

Here are the brownies I made yesterday. Well... half of the brownies I made yesterday. The rest have been eaten by my family. They are great!! Everyone loved them. I even told DD that there was spinach in them after she ate one and she did not care because they are so good!! Low fat and yummy tasting!! I will be making these again for sure! Thanks Jessica Seinfeld!!
I also made a large lasagna for dinner last night. Here is the break down on what I spent to make it......
barilla noodles - free after coupon
1 jar of barilla sauce - free after coupon
2 cans of sauce - 85 cents each
large container of ricotta cheese - $3.09
1 pound of hamburger - no idea (i pulled it from my stash in the freezer)
4 bags of shredded cheese $7.00
Total = $11.79
Not bad for such a large pan that will feed us for 2 dinners and i will freeze some for lunches. I also added some carrot puree to the sauce and meat combo to make it healthier. The carrots were left over from a holiday party and would have gone bad had I not pureed them so I did not add the cost. I had a some sauce and meat mixture left over so I froze that to use later.

Thursday......

I got this book from Santa. I love it! I really want to work on getting our family eating healthier. I came a long way in 2007 but I would like to take it a step farther in 2008. SO.......

I bought this butter and cocoa and pureed the carrots and spinach. What will all this make you ask? Brownies!! Healthy low fat brownies! I am going to make them this afternoon. I will let you know if they were a hit or not.
Here are the holiday socks I collected all year on clearance sales. We gave them to my mother-in-law as a Christmas gift. She loved them! They kids picked them out so that made them even more special to her and it is a gift she can use all year long. All of them were under $1 each!!

Even though it was only 14 degrees here this morning, I got my butt in gear and headed back to the gym after not going for 2 months. I picked up these 2 samples on my way out of the gym. Not a bad find!! DH will use them after his workouts!

Freecycle.....

http://www.bzzagent.com//p/2584486782/frugalcarol - click here to check out freecycle and I will get credit for the click....THANKS!!!
This is a great time of year to list a few things on freecycle that you no longer want. Many have made new year's resolutions to lead a "greener" life.... free cycle is a great way to start. By using freecycle, you keep things out of garbage dumps. I have a few things I need to list. There are a few things I am always looking for on freecycle too. Old barn wood is one of them!!

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year! I hope we find some great freebies in the new year while enjoying a frugal lifestyle. Target went 75% off yesterday in my area so I may try to get there today. AC Moore is 20% off everything in the store all day today... I will be heading there. I have a pork roast in the crock pot for later... PA Dutch tradition for New Years Day is pork and saurkraut for good luck.
